What We Do
GYGM is the way In which we expect resource companies, government and other stakeholders to engage with our community. GYGM provides a way of doing business that is based on Aboriginal law and custom. We do business “our way”. This is the only way that decision can be made about our cultural heritage, our people and our country.
GYGM works with and supports traditional owners, sacred site custodians and native title holders in priority areas determined in accordance with Aboriginal law. GYGM is committed to improve life in the Borroloola region.
The initial priority areas for GYGM to progress its purpose include:
Establishing a local Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) under the Native Title Act where native title holders are eligible to be members of their own PBC with direct involvement in representing and managing their own native title rights.
Establishing a strong cultural heritage protection operation to deliver services and expertise for protection of sites and heritage across GYGM country.
Establishing local engagement and participation processes based on right people for right country. GYGM is a voice for traditional owners to be heard on the cultural, environmental and economic impacts of projects and operations on GYGM country and to jointly undertake planning and rehabilitation works with stakeholders.
