Prescribed Body Corporate
Native Title Holder across the Borroloola region now have the option of a locally based corporation established as a registered Native Title Body Corporate (or Prescribed Body Corporate – “PBC”)
To be a Prescribed Body Corporate under the Native Title Act (NTA), GYGM must be nominated by the native title holders for each determination area. The first native title determination that will be served by GYGM is the McArthur River Pastoral Lease Determination Area(NTD17/20140). This will be the first time that native title holders have had the opportunity to be members of and participate in a PBC for their determination area.

Whilst GYGM is initially working to become the PBC for NTD17/2014 McArthur River Pastoral Lease area, once established as a recognised Prescribed Body Corporate under the Native Title Act (NTA) other Traditional Owner groups in the region will be able to seek similar support from GYGM for other Native Title areas.
GYGM directors have offered to provide this service to any native title group in the Borroloola region that wants aPBC that they can join as members and participate in.
This means, Native Title Holders will for the first time havedirect involvement in representing and managing their own native title rights. GYGM will work with all native title holders and the NLC to ensure every native title holder has the opportunity to exercise their rights directly through a local PBC.
GYGM has the formal support of both the NLC (as the native title representative body) to develop itself as the local PBC. GYGM also has the endorsement of the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority to represent Traditional Owners and custodians of sacred sites within GYGM Country.
