GYGM
Gudanji Yanyuwa Garrwa Marra (GYGM) Aboriginal Corporation was incorporated on 17 October 2023 by Traditional Owners seeking to establish their own governance structure for Indigenous-led representation of the community based on Aboriginal law. The initial focus was on protection of our Cultural Heritage sites and country.
GYGM works closely with the NLC (native title representative body) and the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority (NT Sacred Sites Act statutory organisation).
GYGM works on behalf of the four clans standing together.
Borroloola belongs to four clans linked together through our law and our culture. The four clans cannot be separated and have always been united through our common observance of our Aboriginal law. While each clan has primary responsibility for its own country and language group area, together we support each other to ensure the right people speak for the right country. GYGM ensures the aspirations for all four family groups are represented in all works, including negotiations.
